WHAT IS ASHIATSU?
Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique that uses the feet rather than the hands to manipulate soft tissue. “Ashi” means foot & “atsu” means pressure. It is a western version of an ancient form of bodywork, was created by Ruthie Hardee Piper in the 1990’s, with roots dating back thousands of years from cultures across Asia, India, Africa & the Pacific Rim.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
The nature of Ashiatsu incorporates more of a Swedish style because of the deep compression effleurage & long flowing movements that glide over the body. Ashiatsu is able to provide broad pressure without sharp discomfort. Ashiatsu can be modified for light pressure to very deep. Within the first 5-10 minutes of a session relaxation begins & the deeper level of therapeutic bodywork will naturally begin. Ashiatsu is touted as “the deepest most luxurious massage on the planet!”
Supportive bars are used overhead by the therapist for support & balance. The client relaxes comfortably on the massage table & with the assistance of gravity the therapist uses their body weight along with the bottom surface & heel of the foot to apply a deep relaxing treatment.
Ashiatsu provides a deep relaxation, stimulates the lymphatic system to remove toxins, creates a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage, relieves muscular discomfort & spasms, The biggest benefit of Ashiatsu is that after a few sessions you will feel improved posture and movement, pain relief, improved body function & a sense of wellbeing
